Literature Review: Planning
Literature Review: Planning
This week was the beginning of working on my Literature Review for college. The first step was to come up with my own topic for the Literature Review. I had a bit of trouble with this step as people began taking certain topics that I was interested in very quickly. At first the idea I wanted to look at was MMORPG's which stands for massively multiplayer online role playing games.
I felt like that topic was broad enough to cover several genres and they tend to cause enough drama to have plenty to talk about. However I was worried that I might not have enough to talk about due to the fact that there might not be enough with a genre of game. I briefly decided to take a look at Gaming Dialogues and Dialogue trees in games as I thought there would be a wealth of information on those but after 2 hours of looking for information I gave up. I found there was barely any sort of information on gaming dialogues from academic sources, library books or general google searches, which was really disappointing.
Going back to my original topic, I went about finding all sorts of information on MMORPG's and to my surprise there was tons of information from what I saw, because of the fact that it's online there's much more at play with how people interact with each other and how these games are run.
Games like World of War Craft, Habbo Hotel and Club Penguin all fall into the MMORPG genre.

I was able to find a book about multiplayer mobile games while using the Online Library. During the lecture this week we were informed on how to use the online library for academic papers and books and how to properly site and source information to avoid plagiarism by a librarian named Linsday.
With all of this different information I decided to make a mind map using miro in order to plan out my idea's and jot down some information with sources. I also included key words which would help me search for the perfect resources later on.
