Game Idea Research

 Game Idea Research

Game Idea that I have chosen:

I have decided to go with the idea of a 3d runner game, although I would actually like it to not be endless.
I still think the name "Lucid" is a good idea as my game idea still features that dream/nightmare element. The game will be heavily inspired by the Vaporwave genre and incorporate those elements in design aspects.

Game Genre: vaporwave, cyberwave.

Gameplay: 3d runner

Three possible game mechanics:

Some game mechanic ideas that I would like to further develop include;

Collectables

As seen in the Crash Bandicoot game trailer, apples are the collectable items and are found on the paths Crash runs through. I would like to use this in my game.

Collectables would be a good addition to a 3d runner as it gives the player a goal. These collectables would be in the theme of each section of the game as my idea includes specific themes per each part, this will be elaborated on more in the "Boss" section.

These collectables would need to be a certain amount by the end of the section in order to complete the level. If there is not enough collected then they will get a game over with a try again option or a quit option which is commonly featured in other games as well.

Upgrades

Upgrades can spawn in at random if that is doable and will assist the player during gameplay. These can be different per section following the theme of that level.

Boss themes:

The game could incorporate themes per level and these themes could be based on a bosses design. Such as using a picture of some sort of creature in the background while it seems that you're speeding towards them in order to defeat them.

  1. Hi Enoh, the game idea research blog post is clear and easy to read. It is well divided by paragraphs and photos which prevents it from being crowded and difficult to read. I think that it is interesting the you want to take a well known game like “3D Runner” and add some extra elements to make the game more fun for the players. I like that you will change the game up a little bit rather than just duplicating it. I wonder if you could have some extra points collectables hidden somewhere to make the players think more and perhaps give them a chance to move to the next level. What if the player would have to run away from a boss at some point as well in order to collect a weapon or some price at the end? What if you set traps on the run way that could slow the player down maybe to make it more challenging. Have a think about it and I wish you Goodluck with your game .

  2. Hi Enoh I’m really drawn towards your idea of 3D Runner with the vaporwave and nightmare/dream-like spin. I went ahead and read your vision statement for the game and found the concept of demon and ‘self’ really interesting.

In a way, this reminds me of the indie game GRIS where similarly it relates to the that inner struggle inside one’s mind. However, your idea of the 3D runner really adds to the intensity and chaos of the different selves and the struggle between them.
I understood the idea behind upgrades and how they can be helpful for the player to complete levels. However, I’m thinking what kind of upgrades will the player have? Will they be along the lines rocket boosts or jetpacks or will they something different? I think the boss theme mechanic is pretty cool and it leaves me wondering what if the demon/boss in the background will attempt to obstruct the player’s path as they’re on the way to defeat them? Something along the lines of a road block – giant hand smashing the path ahead. Love your idea and game aesthetic overall, look forward to see what you come up with

  3. Hi Enoh, I really like the your game idea. I like the idea of collecting coins and having the example of Crash is a very good example. I love that game. I played it for hours years ago. I also really like the idea to having bosses to defeat at the end. I can't wait to see the final game and hopefully get to play it! Denis.

  4. Hi Enoh, I hope you're doing well. I just read your idea there and I think it would be a pretty fun game to play. I like how you found the inspiration in other games and created a new idea from them. I like how it sticks to the traditional 3d runner games but with your own style and of course different elements like a boss battle. I'm wondering if you thought about any music that would work well? I'm guessing it would be vaporwave as well. I think it would be cool to add some different power ups while fighting the bosses that help you defeat them. Good luck with your game and I hope it turns out how you want it to!
