Analysing Game Design
Analysing Game Design
How to begin designing a game.
The first step taken into designing a game is the idea of what a game will be about. In the article "Four Basic Methods for Generating Ideas" by Vasiliev Ilya, they run through the techniques in which we can generate ideas for games design. (Link:https://bit.ly/34yRz5U)
These techniques include:
- Concentration
- Brainstorming
- Scamper
- Ramsey
After learning about these four different methods for conceptualizing a game, I would find myself more comfortable with Brainstorming as connecting key points in this visual manner is more engaging to me.

This above website is very useful after a good look through for interesting design elements and information about the pieces featured. It features exclusively Japanese games design, however with Japan being the worlds 3rd leading country when it comes to popularity in games, I would say it's worth a look at.
What defines a game?
The first search for a literal definition for a game, online is "an activity that one engages in for amusement or fun". With this broad answer, we can fit plenty of things under this category.
Here is a link to a book that will be able to teach you more about games design if you are interested

Short...but simple xD
ReplyDeleteHi Enoh
ReplyDeleteI have to say I though that it was going to be longer that this and I thought Shaun wanted us to do all the different reading materials not just one of them. But I have to say this is pretty helpful though I think you could go into a bit more detail on the four different types techniques.
Hi Enoh!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading the article with Japanese game design. Japan have created so many great games, Nintendo for example have created so many games I say you know and love! Who doesn't love a good game of Mario Kart? Game design is very broad if only there was a more definite definition, That would make our lives so much easier!
Hey Enoh,
ReplyDeleteIt was a short read but that's not necessarily bad. You went through how you would go about designing a game and that's all that really matters. Different people have different ways of idea generation. Me for one is just standing in the shower and let my mind do it's thing :D But it was interesting to read how you would come up with a game idea and how you defined a game. Great read!
